An extruder squeezes molten plastic pellets (resin) through a die to be converted into sheet, tubing, film or other shapes. Food is also commonly processed with extruders. Because of their high torque and tight regulation requirements, extruders can be some of the most demanding applications for variable speed drives.
Once considered the domain of DC equipment, extruders are now commonly run with AC motors & drives. Available in sizes from 20 to 2000hp, IDS drives are an excellent choice for extruder operations.
