Shredders reduce plastic scrap, tires, and even entire automobiles into smaller pieces for recycling. Because of their enormous size and high torque requirements, shredders can present a significant challenge to the drives system engineer. Available in sizes from 20 to 2000hp, IDS AC or DC drives are excellent choices for shredder applications. IDS drives are capable of maintaining high torque and can detect overloads to prevent equipment damage. Historically operated by DC equipment, AC drives are now commonplace on newer machinery.
